Description

Description

Holcim partnered with Swedish startup Paebbl and contractor Goldbeck to deploy a carbon-storing concrete technology called Paebbl Rebond in the foundations of a logistics centre for a global retailer in southern Germany. The technology uses accelerated mineralization to convert captured CO2 into a stable mineral powder that replaces part of the cement in concrete, reducing cement use by 15% and permanently storing around 886 kilograms of CO2 in the 4,520-square-foot construction area. The project moved from concept to implementation within six months and included testing at the Holcim Innovation Center in Lyon and plant trials in southern Germany.
