Description

Description

The Caribbean Elite Alliance (CELIA) submarine cable system is a regional initiative aimed at strengthening digital connectivity across the Caribbean. The system will use the latest submarine fiber optic technologies to span over 3700 km, linking key points in the Caribbean and North America, including Antigua and several neighboring islands to Boca Raton in Florida. It features a minimum of 8 fiber pairs, offering a minimum of 22 Terabits per second per fiber pair, and providing an initial estimated capacity of more than 170 Tbps. A marine survey is being conducted to map the ocean floor and identify the most secure and efficient route for laying the submarine cable, ensuring design, installation, and long-term maintenance follow international and industry best practices. The system is expected to be fully operational by 2027, supporting the digital economy, bridging the digital divide, and strengthening the region's position in the global information economy. Key partners include APUA, Aruba-based Setar, US-based Telxius, and France-based Orange, with a commitment to environmental protection and community well-being throughout the project.
