Cariboo - Low Mobility Wilderness Trails Network Expansion

This project will involve the expansion of the Cariboo Regional District’s region-wide wheelchair accessible wilderness trails network through the development of three new trails: Pioneer Park on Dragon Lake, 108 Mile Lake near 100 Mile House, and the Esler Sports Complex near Williams Lake. The project will also include installing accessible amenities and parking. The project will create opportunities for a segment of society that often has difficulty taking part in outdoor recreation, while also promoting healthy living and physical activity among all residents and visitors. The project will include important partnerships with numerous community groups, which will increase community engagement and participation. The new trail at Pioneer Park on Dragon Lake will allow for ParaArchers participating in the outdoor events for the first time at the park. The trail at the Esler Sports Complex will improve the multi-use of the complex, which is currently used mainly for soccer, fastball and slo-pitch. The trail at 108 Mile Lake would expand an existing popular low mobility trail and add access to fishing docks. The project works will include: - construction of or upgrades to existing trails to low mobility standards at three sites; - construction of a low mobility boardwalk trail section at one site; - installation of low mobility benches, outhouses and lookouts; - creation of low mobility access to lake/docks at two sites; - construction of or upgrades to parking lots to low mobility standards at three sites; and, - related works.
