Casalnuovo Tunnel on Naples-Bari High-Speed Railway

The Casalnuovo Tunnel is a critical and technically challenging segment of the high-speed railway line between Naples and Bari. It is the first tunnel in Italy constructed using the hyperbaric excavation method, which uses pressurised air to keep groundwater out, allowing dry excavation in a densely populated area. The tunnel is part of the Naples-Cancello route and was built by Webuild on behalf of Rete Ferroviaria Italiana (RFI), under the FS Italiane Group. The project includes stringent health and safety protocols and uses electric excavation machinery to ensure zero emissions during construction.
