Description
Description | The aim of the SI-SEWOH project Cash Transfers for Food Security in Burkina Faso is to improve the food security of women and young children in rural regions of Burkina Faso and to reduce malnutrition. The target group of the project are pregnant women and young children under 5 years of age in the province of Ioba (Southwest region). A special focus will be on children under 2 years of age. The project measures include regular, unconditional transfer payments (cash transfers) as well as supplementary (awareness-raising) measures in areas such as nutrition, health and hygiene, with a focus on infant/toddler nutrition. In order to promote the sustainability of the transfer payments, the women will also be given smaller-scale advice on how they can successfully invest part of the money in income-generating activities (e.g. livestock farming, vegetable growing, etc.) in order to build a sustainable source of income. The project will be implemented as parallel financing to the existing World Bank-financed basic social security program of the Burkinabe government (Projet Filets Sociaux, PFS), through which almost 60,000 poor and vulnerable households in the Est, Centre-Est, Centre-Ouest and Nord regions already benefit from regular cash transfers. The existing PFS implementation unit within the Ministry for Women, National Solidarity, Family and Humanitarian Aid (MFSNFAH) will be responsible for implementation. |
