Description

Description

Castle & Key Distillery in Frankfort, Kentucky, planned and constructed a large-scale solar photovoltaic (PV) system to power its new bottling operation adjacent to its warehouse in Versailles. The project aimed to reduce the distillery's carbon footprint, lower long-term energy costs, and set a precedent for renewable energy adoption in Kentucky's spirits industry. The system was designed to integrate with the historic property while meeting preservation and safety requirements, including utility grid connection and compliance with safety codes due to flammable spirits on site. The initial phase of the project involved installing a 1.2 MWDC solar array delivering 960 kWAC of clean power, with a second phase planned to add 600 kW more capacity.
