Cat Lake All-Season Road

Cat Lake First Nation is planning to build an all-season road by 2030 to replace the disappearing winter ice road. The road will provide a permanent supply route for the community, which currently relies on a 103-mile winter road made of ice and snow. The project aims to address the challenges posed by climate change, which is shortening the winter road season and making it unsafe. The community is considering two routes: one over the current winter road and another connecting to an all-season road to a nearby gold mine (Springpole). The project cost is estimated at CA$125 million, which the community cannot afford alone. The federal government provided CA$260,000 for a feasibility study, but full funding and construction plans are still pending.
