Description
Description | The construction of a new mother and child clinic in Dar es Salaam under private ownership of the non-profit organization Comprehensive Community Based Rehabilitation in Tanzania (CCBRT) with a capacity of 200 beds is intended to help reduce the still high maternal and newborn mortality rate in Tanzania. At the same time, the provision of high-quality services and appropriate emergency treatment will contribute to disability prevention. As a reference hospital in the so-called Eastern Zone, the hospital is intended to improve the competencies of public and church hospitals in the three regions of Dar es Salaam, Morogoro and Coast and to promote the training and further education of midwives, nurses and gynecologists, particularly in the areas of management of high-risk pregnancies and births, and neonatology. CCBRT currently estimates the total cost at EUR 39.1 million (USD 43 million). The project is co-financed by several donors, including Swiss Development Aid, the Netherlands, the ELMA Foundation, the Christoffel Blindenmission, the Vodafone Foundation in cooperation with USAID, Canada. The Federal Development Agency is contributing a grant totaling EUR 18.5 million to the project. |
