In May 2015, Brazilian company Consorcio Energia do Acre S.A. – CEA (Guascor do Brasil LTDA - 18% and Distribuidora Equador de Produtos de Petroleo Ltda. - 82%) was awarded the contract to build and operate three diesel fueled power plants located at the state of Acre: UTE Cruzeiro do Sul (33.1 MW), UTE Tarauaca (7.6 MW) and UTE Feijo (5.9 KW). The government periodically runs public bidding for the sale of energy to the country´s distribution companies in the Northern region of the country. Brasil Bio Fuels won the public bidding that took place in May 2015 by offering an average tariff of US$ 300/MWh (BRL 1000/MWh), 7.35% below the ceiling set by the regulatory agency. Two other bidders took part in the auction: Tecnogera and Brasil Biofuels. The sponsors committed to invest US$ 21.5 million (BRL 75.1 million) in the project. The regulatory agency Aneel granted a 30-year license to the sponsors in August 2015. Operations commenced in 2016. In November 2016, Distribuidora Equador de Produtos de Petróleo Ltda. transfered to Guascor do Brasil Ltda its share (82%).
