Cedar Creek Drainage Pump Station

The Cedar Creek Drainage Pump Station provides flood protection for people and properties situated behind the dike in a catchment area of 507 ha. The drainage catchment area for the pump station drains Hyde Creek, Cedar Creek, Watkins Creek and West Smiling Creek. Cedar Creek has a history of flooding affecting properties and roads in the drainage catchment area. The existing pump is inadequate to convey creek flows to the Pitt River, and do not provide flood protection for climate change impacts such as increased rain fall and sea level rise. Additionally, the current configuration does not permit fish passage when the pumps are operating. The surrounding low-lying areas and roads currently flood during the 2-year storm, with more widespread flooding occurring in the 10-yr and 100-yr storm events. Consequences include property damage (residential, commercial and agricultural), business interruptions or losses, and access disruption (road closures).
