Description | The Cemetery Brook Drain Tunnel is a 12.5-foot diameter tunnel running 2.5 miles underground from just south of the Queen City Bridge on the east side of the Merrimack River to Mammoth Road in Manchester, New Hampshire. The tunnel will be constructed using a slurry tunnel boring machine named Granite Janet and is part of a 20-year combined sewer overflow program to improve water quality in the Merrimack River. Construction is expected to start in 2025 and complete by 2028, involving the installation of drop shafts and a network of piping to convey stormwater into the tunnel, reducing sewer overflow discharges by 74%. |
