Centennial Park: Lower Bowl Reconstruction - Moncton

The Lower Bowl area is a focal point in Centennial Park which is our major urban regional park in the City of Moncton. It has undergone numerous developments over the years however due to extreme flooding that occurs on a frequent basis the area requires redevelopment. The former Centennial Beach Pool in the site has been replaced in a location that is out of the flood plain. The current project will see the decommissioning and redeveloping of the area to be flood resilient. The scope of work will includes: the replacement of an undersized bridge that is too short and restricts water flow to allow for unrestricted flow capacity of Jonathan Creek to mitigate flooding; constructing 450m of new multi-use trail that can be used year round, with winter use being a skating loop; relocating and reconstructing the basketball courts out of the flood plain; relocating the electrical infrastructure out of the flood plain; removing the failing culvert pipe (230m) and installation of a drainage swale in it’s place to improve aquatic habitat; constructing a performance/community use space; planting of trees; shoreline protection along a section of the banks of Jonathan Creek and Centennial Pond; and creation of a naturalized wetland and meadow.
