Description | The Center Street Bridge seismic retrofit project involves a two-phase construction to retrofit the main span and approaches of the bridge to withstand a major earthquake, including replacing a city water line connected to the bridge. The Oregon Transportation Commission has committed to funding the second phase, which is necessary for federal approval of the first phase. The first phase is estimated to cost between $130 million and $200 million, focusing on the main span and east approaches, while the second phase, expected to cost between $185 million and $270 million, will replace the west approach. Construction is scheduled to begin in late 2026 or early 2027, with the second phase tentatively scheduled for 2033-2036. |
