Description

Description	Broome County officials plan to remove a rusting bridge over the Susquehanna River in Center Village, town of Colesville, which has been closed to vehicles for 35 years. The demolition project is delayed due to the need to protect an endangered species of mussels living near the site. A mussel relocation plan has been submitted to the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) and is awaiting approval. Once approved, the mussels can be safely relocated and the bridge removed. The county has provided a final alternative design for the permit to take down the bridge. The estimated cost of removal is a couple hundred thousand dollars.
