Central African Republic - Emergency aid for food security, sanitation and drinking water for people affected by armed conflict in the city of Bambari

The present humanitarian aid project is an emergency operation because of the conflicts, following the military-political crises, thus provoking the disorganization of the public authorities and the social and economic difficulties of the populations. It will provide immediate assistance to the affected populations in the town of Bambari, which has been severely impacted since 2013 by the armed groups' conflicts in the Central African Republic (CAR). This support is complementary to the interventions of partners such as MINUSCA, the World Bank, the Bekou Fund of the European Union, the United Nations, which have already responded favorably to the call for assistance from the Central African government. The Bank's contribution to financing through the proposed emergency assistance is US $ 1,000,000. It aims specifically to: (i) provide support to the Water and Sanitation sector (resumption of production and distribution of drinking water in the town of Bambari by SODECA), support for the collection and disposal of garbage and hygiene promotion) by the Central African Red Cross (CRCA); (ii) support the affected populations, victims of armed groups' food security conflicts (support for market gardening groups through the provision of tools, food seeds, fertilizers and phytosanitary products and herd replenishment) and; (iii) ensure the audit of the accounts of the operation.
