Description

Description

The present operation was initiated because of the damage caused by the torrential rains in June - July 2009, in Bangui, which affected about 1,500 families, or nearly 10,000 affected people including 3,000 women and 4,000 children. In order to alleviate the suffering of families in distress and restore hope to flood victims, so that its consequences don't seriously affect the effects of the socio-economic progress that the country has experienced in recent years, the Central African Government has launched to the community the Bank Group's intervention. This intervention, which complements that of other donors to assist the stricken populations of the city of Bangui, is based on three components. The first component deals with the acquisition and distribution of subsistence goods, medicines and utilitarian supplies (school bags, notebooks and various supplies). The second component consists of the acquisition of equipment for emergency remediation work and the resettlement of disaster victims in developed sites. The third component relates to the management of the emergency aid operation.
