Central Alto Valle was owned by Agua y Energia Electrica Sociedad del Estado (AyEE), an Argentinean state-owned utility. The facility had an installed capacity of 98-MW in 1992. The government sold the company in two transactions. In the first one (August 1992), a 90% equity stake was sold for $22.15 million to Dominion Energy (54%) and Cooperativa de Servicios Publicos y Comunitarios de Neuquen Ltda. (36%). The remaining 10% was retained to be sold to its workers. Dominion Energy invested $10 million to improve the power plant in 1995. In Mar. 2000, Duke Energy acquired Dominion Energy's equity stake in the project company. In December 2016, Duke sold all its Latin American assets to Orazul for US$ 1.2 billion.
