Description | The Central Arizona Project (CAP) is a multi-billion-dollar network of concrete aqueducts and pipelines that delivers drinking and irrigation water from the Colorado River to hundreds of thousands of residents in Southern and Central Arizona. The project has been a critical water supply lifeline for the region, supporting population and economic growth since its inception. The U.S. Bureau of Reclamation is currently considering proposals to cut CAP water deliveries by 32% to 98%, with a 'dead pool scenario' that could halt all deliveries. The project includes water recharge basins such as the Southern Avra Valley Recovery Project site in Tucson, where water is recharged into aquifers for later use. |
