Description

The Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) is hosting a public meeting for the Central Avenue Bridge replacement project in Wyandotte County. The project involves full reconstruction of the bridge complex spanning approximately 3,900 feet between 6th Street and James Street. It includes replacement of the interchange and bridge over I-70, a new bridge crossing over Union Pacific Railyard, improvements to the I-670 westbound exit ramp and I-670 eastbound entry ramp, and replacement of the steel truss bridge over the Kansas River. The Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kansas (UG) is partnering with KDOT. Construction is expected to occur in phases to maintain access and reduce disruption, with the Central Avenue River Bridge and the 3rd Street ramp anticipated to be constructed first. The project is estimated to cost around $135 million, with construction potentially starting as early as late 2028.
