Description | The Bureau of Land Management has opened a 30-day public comment period to receive input on 50 oil and gas parcels across several counties, including Kern. The parcels total about 36,000 acres and could be included in future lease sales in Kern, Kings, San Luis Obispo, and Fresno counties. Leasing is the first step in developing federal oil and gas resources, and before development can begin, the operator must submit an application for a permit to drill along with development plans. The Bureau reviews all permits for drilling and posts them for public review, also completing environmental studies. |
