Description

Description

Central Iowa Water Works (CIWW) is addressing high nitrate levels in the Racoon River by mixing water from the river with water from Maffitt Reservoir to lower nitrate levels. The nitrate removal facility has been running consistently since January. CIWW received a $25 million grant from the state of Iowa to upgrade and expand its nitrate removal system. Due to high nitrate levels and reservoir depletion, a lawn watering ban is likely to be implemented to manage water demand and treatment capacity.
