Central Park Loop Road E-Bike and Scooter Accommodation

The Central Park Conservancy has repurposed a lane of the park's six-mile loop road to safely accommodate e-bikes and scooters as part of the mix of users. The project aims to maintain the loop as a recreational space, not a street, with changes such as converting traffic lights at pedestrian crossings to flashing yellow signals and potentially eliminating many signals north of 72nd Street. The city and Conservancy are also exploring building protected bike lanes on the Central Park transverses and a two-way protected bike lane around the park to reduce e-vehicle traffic on the loop.
