Description

Description

The project will replace an old lacrosse box with a multi-use covered sports box facility that can support year round all-weather play of multiple sports (lacrosse, ball hockey, basketball, pickleball) as well as a venue for other outdoor recreation activities and events. The existing outdoor lacrosse box at Centennial Park is nearing the end of its expected life span and is no longer safe for children under 10. This project will replace it with a multi-use, all-weather, year-round facility that can be programmed for various activities including multiple sports (lacrosse, ball hockey, basketball, and pickleball) as well other activities. In 2019, Central Saanich and the Peninsula Recreation Commission conducted a Recreation Needs Assessment. which identified this project as a priority. Almost 30% of the registered players with Peninsula Lacrosse are indigenous youth and it is anticipated that improving the facility will result in an increase in the number of participants, including indigenous youth. The project works will include: - demolition and recycling of existing lacrosse box; - construction of roof structure; - installation of LED lighting; - Installation of a new, multi-use playing surface, including support infrastructures such as boards, benches, and storage; - upgrades to the surrounding park including pathways, landscaping, and lighting; and, - related works.
