Description

Central Termica Tucuman is an electricity generation combined cycle plant in El Bracho, Tucuman Province. In 1998 it was built and owned by Pluspetrol Energy. Astra CAPSA acquired a 45% stake in Pluspetrol in January 1997 acting on behalf of its shareholder Spanish company, Repsol. The end of the first phase of development of the plant in the summer of 1999 was expected to expand its capacity from 288 MW to 460 MW. A further expansion of the plant by 375 MW capacity is envisaged in the near future. In Dec. 2000, the EIB approved a US$ 50 million loan to Pluspetrol Energy to expand Central Tucuman's capacity and to convert it into a combined cycle plant. The total cost of this expansion is US$ 181 million (financial closure was achieved in the end of 2000 with a US$ 50 million loan provided by the EIB and a US$ 131 million loan granted by Coface).
