Description
Description | Enersur, a subsidiary of GDF Suez [France] began developing Central Termoeléctrica ChilcaUno in September 2005. The Chilca I TPP was to have two 174 MW units and operate in an open cycle gas powered plant, the first to receive gas from the Camisea gas field. The first 174 MW unit became operational in December 2006 and the second 174 MW unit became operational in July 2007 bringing capacity to 348MW. The project cost of was approximately US $50 million for the first unit and US $40 million for the second unit. The first unit included setup of the plant. The project included a 220kv transmission line to be connected with the national grid with definitive concession to trasmit electricity granted by Peru's MEM (energy and mines ministry) in 2006. In the first semester of 2008, the construction of a third 193 MW turbine began which became operational in the third semester of 2009. The total project cost was approximately US $90 million. The third phase involved developing the turbines into a combined cycle instead of open cycle facility and was to boost capacity to approximately 800 MW. A 270 MW vapor turbine was to be added to the existing facility. To finance the third phase, Enersur signed a US $310 million financing contract with Banco de Credito del Peru in June 2010. In January 2015, Enersur was granted the authorization to build another natural gás combined cycle generating unit with capacity of 112.8 MW. The investment in this unit was estimated at US$ 140 million. Construction works which were contracted to Duro Felguera S.A. commenced in March 2015. The unit was expected to begin commercial operations in the second semestre of 2016. |
