The Bureau of Reclamation updated the long-term operations plan for the Central Valley Project to allow increased water exports from the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta. This federal plan conflicts with California's own water flow and quality requirements, potentially shifting more water burden onto the state and threatening the Delta's ecosystem and water quality. The plan could increase water exports by 130,000 to 180,000 acre-feet annually for the federal project and 120,000 to 220,000 acre-feet for the State Water Project, but the state must still comply with its own environmental regulations.
