The “Centre for EU-Asia Connectivity” (CEAC) at RUB covers connectivity-related challenges and opportunities for the EU’s role in a changing global environment and strives to contribute to a differentiated and more strategic understanding of EU-Asia relations and the factors that strengthen and inhibit connectivity, especially in policy areas related to the green and digital transitions, trade relations, content and quality of evolving connectivity partnerships, and the global scope of the strategy. CEAC will meaningfully contribute to academic research and teaching in EU Studies at the faculty and university levels and partner institutions, facilitate cooperation between relevant stakeholders, develop policy recommendations and enhance visibility of the European integration project and the values that the EU stands for, while raising awareness of the EU’s public diplomacy outreach vis-à-vis Asia and the EU’s quest for responsible global leadership. CEAC builds on a previous and current Jean Monnet Chair and develops them further. Connected to the AREA Ruhr Alliance, the European universities network UNIC, the Asia-Europe Institute, Malaysia, and Jawaharlal Nehru University, India, CEAC will create a unique research hub and digital platform that allows for establishing regular dialogues between students, researchers, civil society, practitioners, media, civil servants and policy-makers with positive implications for the local, national, European and transregional levels. Activities include a (1) student exchange programme between universities in Europe and Asia; (2) internship programme for students in the industry and public administration sectors, (3) junior researchers’ awards programme, (4) multi-stakeholder conference, (5) policy brief series (18issues), 1edited volume and journal articles, (6) a multi-channel and multi-dimensional communication and dissemination strategy consisting of the Centre’s website, social media tools, newsletter, and video production.
