Description
Description | The project consists of the installation of solar panels on the roof of the Town’s new amphitheatre, in the area surrounding the amphitheatre, and on the Energy Edmundston building and surrounding land. The project also includes the construction and installation of an energy storage system. Not only does the Town of Edmundson run their own electrical distribution network, but their Energy service is the only one in the Province of New Brunswick that produces a portion of their electricity. The are able to do this because of three central hydroelectric plants. The addition of a solar panel system and energy storage will be a first for the municipality, which wishes to produce energy from more renewable sources. The panels, once installed, will produce the equivalent of 1Mw of energy. This energy could be used to operate the building’s systems or to help manage energy during peak usage hours. For this project no vegetation clearing or grubbing will be necessary; the new infrastructure will be installed on existing cleared land or buildings. The civil works will require some excavation but will be situated far from any water bodies. This project will increase the Town’s capacity to produce and manage renewable energy. |
