CEP is the only European network organization for probation bodies and national authorities, providing leadership, support and representation by sharing EU objectives and priorities in criminal justice. Through its network and activities CEP provides for the EC a direct conduit to probation bodies and practitioners. The CEP goals are to unite, build and maintain professionals working in probation and criminal justice; continue and improve professionalism in this field and raise the profile of probation on national and EU levels. CEP achieves the goals through exchanging knowledge, experience and information; compiling and disseminating information concerning legislation, jurisprudence and probation practice in EU countries in the field of community sanctions and measures; working with the EC, CoE and other EU bodies; supporting and contributing to scientific research in the field of community sanctions and measures; organizing conferences, workshops, webinars and expert group meetings; participating and contributing to transnational projects, where appropriate, for the development and dissemination of new initiatives in community measures; providing expert assistance in the development of legislation and practice regarding community sanctions and measures; meeting regularly with officials of the EU and its agencies to coordinate activities, develop shared objectives; publishing information on developments and best practices in probation, community sanctions and resettlement of offenders in the EU in media managed by CEP. CEP addresses topics like the Framework Decisions 829&947, radicalization/post-release treatment, alternatives to (pre-trial) detention and post-trial, mental health, domestic violence, sex offenders, gender based violence, technology, assessment, foreign nationals etc. CEP maintains the use of digital and innovative resources to enhance communication with its members.
