Description

Description

The project's objective is to alleviate poverty by preventing a disease in a specific rural community, which drains the resources of disadvantaged, rural and indigenous communities and which Mexico's Health Ministry has made a public health priority. The project intends to develop, implement and evaluate a cervical cancer prevention program through educational workshops targeted to three different groups in the community – doctors, health promoters and clients to increase and improve screening and services combined with technical assistance to doctors and lab technicians to increase the use and quality of available services and the number of Pap tests. The end product will be a sustainable community-based cervical cancer model program, which can be evaluated and institutionalized by Michoacan health authorities and widely disseminated to other parts of Mexico, fostering greater cooperation between Mexico and Japan.
