Chad - Institutional Support Project for Three Ministries (Agriculture, Finance and Planning)

The project comes within the framework of the implementation of the economic and social development policy in Chad. It aims, inter alia, at establishing and/or strengthening the administrative and economic structures of the country destroyed during the 1979/82 war and the development of human resources. The project consists of: (i) seconding to the three Directorates selected technical assistants, Director’s advisers; (ii) training the employees of these Directorates and, for certain subjects, the civil servants of other ministries; (iii) supplying material, equipment and office furniture; (iv) procuring vehicles and motorbikes; (v) bearing the running costs of equipment, material, vehicles and motorbikes purchased; and (vi) constructing and strengthening the Ndjamena offices and the sub-divisions in the provinces of the Rural Engineering and Agricultural Hydraulics Directorate. It will help to strengthen the administrative and economic management of the country. Therefore the project will enable the Government to successfully implement its structural adjustment programme begun in 1987 with the help of the international community following the severe drought of 1983/84 and the coton sector crisis in 1985-1986.
