Chad - Natural Resource Management and Development Project

The natural resource management and development project is designed within the framework of the Rural Development Intervention Program (RDIP) and it stemmed from the observation that sustainable development in Chad has to start with rational management of natural resources. This management is the focus of the rural development sector consultation in Chad. Implementation of the current project will solve one of the most disturbing development problems in Chad – namely, the degradation of productive capital, notably land. The project will also contribute to water resource development. Indeed, its implementation will also lead to an increase in the irrigated surface area, thus contributing to the attainment of Chad’s water management objective and guaranteeing the long-term profitability of natural resource use. The maintaining, increase and diversification of agricultural production, coupled with the positive effects of technical assistance and those generated by the setting up of a seed sector will lead to substantial poverty reduction in the project area and an improvement in the living conditions of the people. The total project cost is estimated at CFA.F 15,759 million or UA 20.42 million, net of taxes and customs duties. The project will be implemented over a period of six years and comprises the following components: (i) capacity-building; (ii) increasing the productivity of natural resources; and (iii) project management.
