Description

Description

The present project is about a supplementary loan 9.57 UA Million (7.120 Billion CFAF) to the natural resource management and development project. This project is designed within the framework of the Rural Development Intervention Program (RDIP) and it stemmed from the observation that sustainable development in Chad has to start with rational management of natural resources. This management is the focus of the rural development sector consultation in Chad. Implementation of the current project should solve one of the most disturbing development problems in Chad – namely, the degradation of productive capital, notably land. The project should also contribute to water resource development. Indeed, its implementation should also lead to an increase in the irrigated surface area, thus contributing to the attainment of Chad’s water management objective and guaranteeing the long-term profitability of natural resource use. The maintaining, increase and diversification of agricultural production, coupled with the positive effects of technical assistance and those generated by the setting up of a seed sector should lead to substantial poverty reduction in the project area and an improvement in the living conditions of the people. The project comprises the following components: (i) capacity-building; (ii) increasing the productivity of natural resources; and (iii) project management. The supplementary loan essentially targets the second. The main activities covered by this supplementary financing are summarized as follows : (i) rehabilitation of the Bongor Katoa dam to equip and protect 1,000 hectares of rice paddies ‘’A’’ of Bongor and rehabilitation of 500 ha of 8 small village perimeters along the Logone located on the axis Djoumana -Lai.
