Chad - Rural Drinking Water Supply and Sanitation Program (PNEAR)

The present Rural Drinking Water Supply and Sanitation Program (PNEAR) has sub-programs including the Drinking Water Supply and Sanitation Program (DWSS). This sub-program for drinking water supply and sanitation (DWSS) responds, on the one hand, to the Government of Chad's concern to ensure an equitable development of the different regions of the country and to correct the shortcomings noted, in accordance with the new water policy and the decentralization's policy and regional balance, and, on the other hand, the Bank Group's willingness to contribute to the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals through the Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Initiative. The first phase of the sub-programme that will be based in the Mayo Kebbi and Tandjile regions comprises the following components: (i) Development of basic water supply infrastructure; (ii) Information, Education and Communication; (iii) Institutional support to local intervening structures; (iv) Studies, Control and Supervision of Works; and (vi) Management of the Sub-programme.
