Chad - Telecommunications Infrastructure Rehabilitation Project

The proposed project, which falls into line with a basic telecommunications infrastructure rehabilitation programme of Chad, is of high priority to the Government. The project is therefore intended to install modern telephone exchanges of an adequate capacity, rehabilitate the cable networks of the country’s largest towns, N’Djamena, Sarh, Moundou and Abeche. It covers a great deal of ground in strengthening Chad’s economic activities. The project is also intended to strengthen the executing Agency’s technical, accounting and administrative management structures and upgrade the qualifications of technical maintenance staff. It will thus contribute to the preparation of a future telecommunications master plan indispensable to a more efficient planning of investments. The project will revive activities in the telecommunications sector by rehabilitating and reinforcing telephone services offered to users. It will help to interconnect Abeche and N’Djamena via a new HF link, rehabilitate the networks of Moundou, Sarh, Abeche and N’Djamena and provide Moundou, Sarh, Abeche with new automatic telephone exchanges of adequate capacity; it will contribute to opening up prefectures and sub-prefectures by providing for the Installation of new and modern HF links. The project will be implemented over a period of about 3 years.
