The proposed project has a strategic scope to improve the regional integration of Chad and unlock the development potential of the Lake Chad region and focuses on the regional integration of the country through enhanced multimodal connectivity and support for the development of value chains. It aims to complete the TransSaharan Road (TSR) corridor in Chad between (Liwa and -Rig Rig (55 kms)), open up the Lake Chad region by connecting rural and urban areas to the TSR through the rehabilitation of feeder roads (12 km) and improve the navigability on the lake. The project also intends to (i) support the stabilization of the region by (i) fostering economic opportunities through support to the development of value chains with potential for growth and sub-regional trade, in particular fisheries, livestock and valuable products from the lake such as spirulina; (ii) improving the living conditions for communities. It has built-in flexibility to finance urgent and critical needs as they arise during implementation as well as prepare next phases of the regional integration program for Chad. The project will is structured around 3 main components: (i) Component 1: Multimodal connectivity and access to basic services , (ii) Component 2: Support for the development of value chains and Trade facilitation and (iii) Component 3: Institutional strengthening and Project management.
