Established in 1972 in Udine, Italy, Faber Industrie has grown rapidly to become the leader in the production of high pressure (200 to 250 bar) seamless steel and composite gas tanks for medical and industrial applications (oxygen, nitrogen, hydrogen tanks), leisure (scuba diving) and vehicles (CNG Tanks). Faber has four plants located in the north-east of Italy with a production capacity of one million cylinders per year. Faber’s main customers in the automotive industry are original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) such as Suzuki, Toyota, Isuzu, Fiat, Volkswagen and General Motors (GM).Faber established its Thai subsidiary, Chalybs Cylinders Ltd., in March 2009. Chalybs is establishing a 20,000 sqm manufacturing plant on a 120,000 sqm plot in the Eastern Seaboard Industrial Estate (ESIE), Thailand (the “Project”). This plant will manufacture 195,000 seamless cylinders annually in its first 3 years of operation. Faber will be able to supply to Chalybs from Italy the raw material (pipes or shells), which will be sealed at one end or two ends, heat treated, neck-machined, tested (at various stages) and coated in Thailand and then shipped directly to the OEMs in Thailand and in the Asia Pacific region, particularly Pakistan, Thailand as well as Bangladesh. The Chalybs’ plant is nearing completion and is expected to be operational in early 2013. IFC’s is proposing an investement of 20 million Euro in Chalybs. The Project is located in the Eastern Seaboard Industrial Estate (ESIE) which has been operational since 1995. Spread on a total area of 3,300 acres in the Board of Investment Privilege Zone III, the industrial estate is about 120 km from Bangkok and in close proximity to the Chonburi coastal infrastructure and Laem Chabang container port.
