It is operated by Hydro-Québec Energy Services and supplies hydropower to New York City, providing 20% of the metro area's power and reducing carbon emissions. The project took 15 years of planning and three years to build, and is the longest fully buried transmission line on the continent. It offsets power lost after the Indian Point nuclear plant closure in 2021 and is expected to save state ratepayers $17.3 billion over 30 years while providing $1.4 billion in tax revenue over 25 years. |
