Chancay Hydro Power Project

The Peruvian company Sindicato Energetico S.A. (SINERSA) announced the development of the Chancay hydro power plant (Chancay river), located at Lima Department (19.2 MW in capacity). In October 2012, the sponsor signed a definitive concession agreement with the Peruvian Energy and Mine Ministry (MINEM). The investment was estimated at US$ 49.1 million. The power plant signed 20-year power purchase agreements with distribution companies after winning the public bidding that took place in 2010 (tariff offered: US$ 0.0585/kWh). The EPC contract was signed with the Peruvian company Colpex Project S.A. Construction works commenced in July 2015, and commercial operations began in the end of 2016. In November 2016, MINEM authorized the parcial transfer of the CH Chancay concession to the CH Rucuy concession, awarded to Empresa de Generacion Eléctrica Río Banos S.A.C. (EGERBA), subsidiary of Peruvian company Volcan. Both hydro power plants share the same hydraulic structures.
