Chandigarh Smart Parking Pilot Project

The Chandigarh municipal corporation is launching a pilot project for a smart parking system in select city markets to test technology, operational policy, and terms before a citywide rollout. The project aims to introduce a FASTag-enabled parking system across all 89 paid parking lots in Chandigarh, replacing the current manual system. The pilot will be conducted in two or three paid parking lots in crowded market areas such as Sector 17 and 35. The project faced delays due to challenges in finalizing agreements with private firms and issues with GST and stamp duties. The MC also plans to introduce city-wide monthly car parking passes priced at ₹500 to increase revenue.
