Description | The Chandikhole project is a 4-million-tonne underground crude storage facility in Odisha, India, aimed at enhancing the country's crude oil storage capacity. The project was approved in June 2018 but faced delays due to land and clearance issues. It is now being fast-tracked amid concerns over crude supply disruptions due to the Iran conflict. The project is expected to cost around USD 1 billion for construction and an additional USD 3 billion to fill the reserve with crude oil. Once operational, it will add more than seven days to India's existing crude storage capacity, boosting energy security and generating over 5,000 employment opportunities. |
