Zhenjiang Changhong Thermal Power Cy Ltd was set up by Tractebel's international gas and power arm, Powerfin, and Chinese partners in 1996. The joint venture deal for the building of the Changhong Thermal Power Plant closed in October 1997. The plant is a lignite/fluidizes bed cogeneration station with a capacity of 27-MW for electricity and 10-MW of heat. It is located at Zhenjiang, on the banks of Yangtze River, 50km from Nanjing. The power station will be equipped with two steam extraction turbine generator sets of 13.5-MW each, supplied by three fluidised bed broilers burning Chinese coal with high ash content. Commercial startup is scheduled for the second half of 1998. The majority of the equipment will be manufactured in China and supplied by Chinese companies. Powerfin provided $20 million equity and has a 65% stake in the project.
