Description | The project addresses the priority of fighting against discrimination of Roma, through activities aiming at raising awareness and combating harmful stereotypes of Roma, with a strong component of empowering the Roma at local level and promoting their participation in developing, implementing and monitoring policies that affect that. It also supports the capacity building of Roma and pro-Roma civil society at local level. Objectives - To capacitate Roma people and Roma LGBT civil society in 5 cities to participate in the development and implementation of policies that affect them - To raise awareness of population and local authorities in 5 cities about discrimination against the Roma and LGBT Roma, 100,000 people, estimated reach of 100,000 people; - To raise the society’s capacity to fight against discrimination of Roma by getting better knowledge about it and better understanding of discrimination’s negative impact. Building on the bottom-up approach, the project has a national wide component that works on several angles on fighting against discrimination of Roma. First, it provides data on how cases of discrimination of Roma for a period of two years are present before relevant authorities and handled with. Then it brings a more recent information on the public perception of the Roma, LGBT Roma and discrimination. These will be put together with personal stories of discrimination identified within the project and the best practice activities from the local campaigns. Along with 20 interviews with practitioners in the field of antidiscrimination of Roma, it will provide an updated image on Roma discrimination in Romania and models of tackling it from within and as community, together. The innovative aspect of the project is putting on the agenda the LGBT Roma, a group affected by multiple discrimination.
