Description

In December 2006, SUEZ signed a 30-year contract to manage and operate water services in Changshu City, Jiangsu Province, China. The contract covered the operation of three water plants with a total capacity of 675,000 cubic meters daily and 2,500km of the water piping network for the city's 1.5million residents. Sino-French Water Development was a 50-50 joint venture of French utility company SUEZ and New World Infrastructure of Hong Kong. Sino-French purchased 49% of the outstanding shares of the public water utility Changshu Water Supply Company, after winning an international competitive bidding process and being named the preferred bidder. SUEZ and New World Infrastructure held 24.5% each of the Changshu Water Supply Company through Sino-French. SUEZ announced it expected to earn €1 billion over the 30-year contract. As of February 2007, the project was operational.
