Charcoal Briquettes Making Project

This project involves the establishment of a plant for charcoal briquettes making from biomass as an alternative to decaying hydro power, costly solar power and unsustainable charcoal burning practices. Charcoal burning activities are at a faster rate and this has highly contributed to massive deforestation and forest degradation. Additionally, the National Strategy to reduce deforestation and forest degradation shows an estimated forest degradation rate of 250,000 to 300, 000 hectares per year. Thus, the project envisions to change this narrative by using readily available natural resources as an alternative to charcoal burning. This project is profitable with annual sales of ZMW521, 000 at a production capacity of 253 tons in the first year of operation. Additionally, the raw materials for this project are readily available. The Project is open for a joint venture and the total investment cost is ZMW421, 961 (USD24, 821.2) at exchange rate of ZMW17. Key and critical components for this project are; a crusher, air flow dryer, briquette making machine and a carbonization furnace which are estimated at ZMW100, 000, ZMW120,000, ZMW135,000 and ZMW50,000 respectively. Hence, a Private investor is required to provide investment resources in cash and in kind.
