Description

Description

This project, chARTer, aims to strengthen citizens’ awareness of our shared rights and values and increase their degree of democratic engagement. This is done by wrapping the Charter of Fundamental Rights in art. We will combine the power of art with innovative ways of executing events, debates, and exhibitions with citizens involvement at the core with a bottom-up approach. The foundation of the project design is created with the diverse strengths of the consortium. The result is a high level of ambitions when securing participation from citizens in all their diversity, based on gender equality. We have an increased focus on citizens who is commonly not a part of our EP elections nor engaged in-between. We will change this by inviting them into conversations using the power of art and creating safe spaces, where all reflections and answers are accepted. chARTer takes its departure from visual interpretations of the Charter, created by upcoming and well-known artists. The overall concept of chARTer is to increase citizens’ knowledge of the Charter and thereby their own fundamental rights, while at the same time empowering them to act. This is the starting point for a shared transnational conversations throughout the project, which will be facilitated through three phases. Firstly, get citizens to reflect on the Charter (based on the artistic interpretations), and give them a voice to express where they experience democratic challenges in the EU. This will be collected in a booklet. Secondly, discuss the booklet findings and rights-based challenges with citizens and MEP candidates at transnational EP election debates in 2024. Lastly, explore the findings of the citizens deliberations, the use of art in democratic dialogue and inputs from citizens to the newly elected MEP’s. The overall aim of chARTer is to raise citizens participation and awareness about the Charter while bringing citizens together in all their diversity through an artistic approach in deliberations.
