Description | The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) planned to build a 900-megawatt natural gas power plant in Cheatham County, Tennessee, including a power plant and a battery storage system on 286 acres, a 12-mile natural gas pipeline, and up to 45 miles of transmission lines. The plant was intended to replace electricity from the second unit of the coal-fired Cumberland Fossil Plant, which was planned for retirement in 2028 but is now being evaluated for longer life. Due to public scrutiny and opposition, TVA has backed off the Cheatham County site and is considering other sites in Middle Tennessee, including a nearby industrial park. |
