Chelsea Microgrid Project

Chelsea installed solar panels and large capacity batteries in critical infrastructure including City Hall, a police station, and a public works garage to create a microgrid. The project aims to provide clean energy and climate resilience, especially in the event of grid failure or climate disaster. The second phase will extend the microgrid to a Chelsea Housing Authority property and a hospital. Savings and revenue from the microgrid will reduce utility costs for low-income residents and support further expansion. The long-term goal is for Chelsea to govern and operate its own electric utility.
