Description

The Chenab Rail Bridge is the world's tallest arch railway bridge, standing 359 meters high over the Chenab River in the Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir, India. It is part of the Udhampur–Srinagar–Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project, a 272 km railway corridor designed to connect the Jammu region to the Srinagar Valley. The bridge features a 1,315-meter-long steel arch structure with approach viaducts, designed to withstand wind, earthquakes, and extreme weather conditions. The project includes 36 tunnels and 943 bridges along the route, significantly reducing travel time between Katra and Srinagar by about three hours. The bridge uses modular assembly with progressive closure of the arch and is designed for a service life of 120 years.
