Description | The Chenab Railway Bridge is the world's highest railway arch bridge located in the Reasi district of Jammu & Kashmir. It is a steel arch bridge that stands 359 meters above the Chenab River and spans 1,315 meters in length. The bridge is part of the Udhampur–Srinagar–Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project, connecting Kashmir with the rest of India via railway for the first time. It was built to enable direct train connectivity to Srinagar, overcoming the challenging terrain of the Pir Panjal mountain range. The bridge is a technological and strategic marvel, designed to withstand extreme weather, seismic activity, and potential security threats, and was constructed using advanced cable crane technology. It was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 2025-06-06. |
